Deer Creek tramples Durant at Festival opener
By Zach Maxwell Sports Reporter
ARDMORE - The fifth-ranked Lady Antlers of Deer Creek escaped from the Lady Lions on Thursday with a 73-33 win at the Ardmore Holiday Festival.
Deer Creek took a quick 18-9 lead after one quarter and just kept building. Six points from Makayla Patton in the second quarter gave Durant some life, but the Lady Antlers regained control and scored 21 points in the quarter to take a 39-15 lead into the locker room.
The Lady Lions scored 12 points in the third quarter, six from Reaghan Jones. But the effective defense of Deer Creek kept Durant down with no fourth-quarter field goals in a 20-6 run for Deer Creek.
All of Durant’s scoring in the fourth came on free throws, as reserves shot 6-for-8 from the charity line. Alexus Coxsey and Sarah Roesler hit two freebies, while Rylie Andis and Nanaiya Addis each went 1-for-2.
Patton led the Lady Lions with nine points on 4-for-5 shooting; Ciera Taylor had seven points and five rebounds; Jones finished with six; Alexa Richards had five.
