COLBERT - Madison Poteet’s big Friday night started with her coronation as Homecoming queen and ended with her hitting the key free throws in a one-point win for the Lady Leopards.

Poteet scored seven of her nine points in the fourth and Taytiana Gray scored 14 as Colbert rattled the Lady Rebels 45-44. Samantha Cummins added 10 for the Lady Leopards (including 4-4 free throw shooting) and Haylie McGowan had seven.

Chanda Sinor scored five for Colbert, including a fourth-quarter three which tied the game at 36-all.

Mary Grider led Silo with 22 points which included five from downtown despite a cold shooting stretch in the third. Katlyn Halley had nine, Rile Newton scored five to go with four steals, Jewel Zukosky scored four, Karissa Marshall had two points and three steals.

Hannah Bourne scored two points but pulled down 11 rebounds to go with a pair of blocked shots for the Lady Rebels.

Silo took an early 12-11 lead as Grdier banked in a three late in the opening quarter. A sloppy and scoreless second ensued without a point on either side until 1:50.

Grider scored all six Silo points in a 6-0 blanking of the Lady Leopards in the second, scoring a free throw, a basket and a three to go 1-2-3 in order. It was good enough for an 18-11 halftime lead for the Lady Rebels.

Colbert went on a 12-0 run to start the third, sparked by a pair of steals from Poteet. She missed her first open look but made good on the next. Riley Newton stepped up for Silo with a triple but Colbert took a 28-27 lead into the fourth on a 17-9 run.

Silo went on a 9-0 run in the fourth to take a 36-31 lead. But it would switch back and forth until Gray’s jumper and a free throw from Poteet put Colbert ahead 42-39 in the final 90 seconds.

A critical call under the Silo basket gave Colbert the ball and the Lady Leopards were able to get to the line. Ahead 45-41, Grider hit a baseline three as time expired to round out the final.

Both teams will be in Silo on Monday to start the Bryan County Tournament. Colbert will play Hwy. 91 rival Achille at 6:30 p.m.; Silo hosts Calera at 8 p.m.
