The consolation side of the Bryan County Tournament bracket was filled out on Thursday at Bloomer Sullivan Arena, with two teams advancing to a trophy game while another pair was eliminated from Saturday competition.
Calera 64 Caddo 42
Johnathan Diamond scored 18 and Bradley McKnight finished with 16 as the Bulldogs bounced back from a tournament-opening loss with a 64-42 win over the Caddo Bruins.
McKnight scored 10 flashy points in the first quarter, including a steal-and-score as well as an unlikely continuation shot as he fell backwards for the “and-one” three-point play. Calera took a 15-10 lead which went higher when Tanner Davis hit an early three in the second.
McKnight kicked out to Diamond for a baseline three just before the half, adding to Calera’s lead at 30-17. Diamond poured in seven in the third as Calera outscored the Bruins 16-8 to build a 21-point lead.
Braxton Barton added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Dawgs, Davis scored nine to go with 11 boards, and Conner Hamilton grabbed 10 rebounds while scoring three points. Keith Sackett (5) and Shawn Harper (2) protected the lead with their fourth quarter baskets.
Tanner Grace led Caddo with 13, Patrick Joines scored 12 and cleaned the glass for nine rebounds, and Daniel Stone scored six. Other Caddo scorers: Rosenda Chavez 3, Clay Argo 2, Kolton Dixon 2, Aaron Purkins 2, Clayton Holbrook 2.
Colbert 51 Achille 32
Payton Whitehead turned in a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 19-point tournament turnaround for Colbert over Achille.
The Eagles took an 11-8 lead after one quarter as Lane Manry started off hot. But Colbert went on scoring streaks of 7-0, 19-2 and 7-0 to start each of the last three quarters.
After clawing back to a 19-17 halftime lead, Colbert used a 19-7 third quarter run to build some distance. Whitehead scored 10 in the third to set the tone.
Darius Johnson scored 13 and grabbed six rebounds for the Leopards; Garrett Work stroked from outside for 11 points; Kason Krob had six points and six boards; McKlane Marquez scored a basket.
Manry led Achille with 12 points, followed by Jason Todd with seven. Other Eagles in the books: Riggin Dellis 3, David Beydler 2, Scott Robinson 2, T.J. Childree 2, Michael Reese 2, Zach Nichols 1, Cooper Turner 1.
