Polar: Having or relating to a pole or poles.
Vortex: A whirling mass of air (Congress, perhaps?), especially one in the form of a visible column or spiral, as a tornado.
Many of us didn’t know what a polar vortex was until it got really cold and the media told us we had one.
Glad I could clear that up for you.
SOUTHEASTERN OPENS softball and baseball seasons Saturday, which is February 1, which is the first day NCAA Division II teams are allowed to play Spring Sports.
Coach Ron Faubion’s softballers will take on Texas-Permian Basin at 10 a.m. Saturday in San Antonio, Texas.
Coach Mike Metheny’s baseballers will take on Texas A&M-International at noon Saturday in Laredo, Texas.
You are allowed to call time out here and have a good belly laugh about the whole Spring Sports thing while the Southeastern teams prepare to throw out first pitches.
The lying Internet weather shows it might be possible to survive the Texas trips. Believe that or take note of players turning blue from exposure to inclement weather.
Where, pray tell, does one find clement weather on February 1?

Commemorative engraved bricks to be placed around the backstop at the new DHS baseball field at the high school are now on sale.
These bricks are priced at $100 and are a wonderful way to honor family, friends, colleagues or even businesses.
With their names on these commemorative bricks, honorees will be remembered as they continue to be a part of Durant High School athletics history for many years.
It’s also a great way to recognize former DHS athletes and All-State selections in any sport.
All proceeds from the brick sales will go to the Durant Public School athletics program.
For more information, contact Brick Campaign Coordinator Delinda Knox at 580-916-7473 or Kevin Farr at 580-916-7478. You may also e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
