Taylin Palmer and Chance Haislip teamed up for 42 points in Bennington’s 68-37 win over Victory Life Academy on Thursday.

Palmer turned in 22 points while Haislip had 20 for Coach Bobby Weil’s Bears. Bennington improves to 16-7 this season.

The Bears raced out to a 14-6 lead after the first quarter and a 19-7 second quarter run gave them a 33-13 lead at the half. Bennington outscored the Eagles 20-11 in the third.

For the Bears, Josh Hawkins added nine points, Cameron Hammond had eight, Devin Dophied scored five and Cody Forrest and Michael Rochelle had two apiece.

Connor Harrison led the Eagles with 12 points. Grant Rustin and Ben Grody hit a pair of threes each and Zach Hestily also contributed six points. Logan Hestily scored four and Chandler Stampley had three.

Both teams will be in action on Monday (weather permitting). VLA visits Tupelo, while Bennington will host Springer for senior night festivities starting at 5:15 p.m.

Victory Life Academy senior Amber Bruce was honored in a post-game ceremony on Thursday, but she had a rough night on the court with a couple of run-ins against the Lady Bears of Bennington.

Bennington got 14 points from Crystal Tate and 11 from Kayle Malone in a 29-point win over VLA. Sarrah Mayes and Ashten Belvin scored eight each to round out the Bennington scoring leaders.

Scarlett Stinchcomb led the Lady eagles with 11, followed by six points from Justus Harris.

Bruce finished with four points for the Lady Eagles, ending a streak of double-digit games for the team’s lone senior.

She scored 26 points in a 53-24 win over Thackerville on Jan. 28 and followed that with a 20-point night in a 40-36 win over Wapanucka last Friday. Bruce scored 13 in the fourth quarter of the game to help VLA pull away.

Bruce also had 16 points in an eight-point loss to the Madill junior varsity squad earlier this week.
