Men’s Tennis: Storm Cruise to 9-0 Win Over AC


DURANT, Okla. - No. 40 Southeastern’s men’s tennis kept its record perfect and opened the spring with a dominating 9-0 win over Austin College on Tuesday evening at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.


The win moved the team to 3-0 on the year overall heading into a Feb. 24 matchup with Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee at 3 p.m.


The duo of Tiago Ferreira and Alberto Blesa turned in an 8-2 win at number one doubles to open the match.


At number two it was the pair of Petar Popavic and Billy Haugen who posted the same 8-2 winning margin.


At number three the team of Martin Bedcarratz and Renato Joao faced a little more competition, but still picked up an 8-4 win.


In singles play, Blesa carried his momentum over top pick up a 6-1, 6-1 win in the top spot.


Ferreira was even more efficient at number two, picking up a 6-0, 6-0 win to clinch the match victory.


Bedcarratz continued the run at number three with a 6-2, 6-1 win, while Popavic was on his heels with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number four.


Chris Carillo picked up the victory at number five with a 6-2, 6-0 win, while Joaquin Aquilera completed the 9-0 sweep with a cruising 6-1, 6-0 win at number six.


Women’s Tennis: Lady Storm Sweep pass Roos


DURANT, Okla. - Southeastern’s women’s tennis team opened the spring portion of the schedule with a 9-0 sweep of Austin College at the Southeastern Tennis Complex on Tuesday night.


The win moves the Savage Storm to 2-1 overall on the year heading into a Feb. 24 match at Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee, Okla., at 3 p.m.


SE got a test at number one doubles where Ilga Racika-Racko and Brittany Tobin edged out a 9-7 win over the pair of McDonald and White.


Things were a little easier at numbers two and three where Darija Catipovic and Conchi Assiego picked up an 8-3 win, followed by Marina Dias and Elba Haugen who also picked up an 8-3 victory.


The momentum carried into singles play, where the number one player for the Storm was tested as Catipovic needed a 10-6 win in the tiebreaker to complete the 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 win.


Racika-Racko cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at number two which clinched a match victory for SE.


Assiego made the advantage 6-0 after cruising to her own 6-1, 6-0 win at number three.


Cassaundra Braaten at number four picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win, as did Haugen at number five.


Tobin rounded out the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number six.
