The Rock Creek Mustangs survived to play another day in regional playoffs after a 47-42 victory over the Smithville Braves on Thursday afternoon.

The Mustangs are now set to play Bryan County foe the Boswell Scorpions in Quinton, Ok. on Friday at 3 p.m.

Rock Creek’s Bronson Burns led his team in scoring with 24 points and Josh Eiler pitched in eight points.

It was a see-saw game as neither team could grab a lead any larger than five points throughout.

The first period was bit of a lack luster quarter, but close. The Braves had the 8-7 edge over the Mustangs headed into the second period.

There wasn’t any big runs by either team in the second quarter. Buckets were traded throughout the period and Rock Creek trailed 23-22 after a last second 3-pointer by Burns to keep his team in the game at halftime.

Back-and-fourth, the lead changed hands four times in the third period. However, the Rock Creek erased it’s one point deficit and knotted the game at 36-all at the end of the period.

In frantic fourth period, both teams tried to find a way to shake the other. It came down to very last minute in game.

Rock Creek grabbed its largest led of the game 41-37 with three minutes left. Then the Braves fired back and trailed 43-42 with only a minute on the clock.

The Braves couldn’t make a shot when they needed to and Rock Creek closed the game out at the free throw line for the win.
