COLBERT - Split down the middle.


The “Big C” schools of southern Bryan County turned in a pair of wins and a pair of losses in the Class 2A regional basketball playoffs on Thursday.


The winners were Calera boys in a 72-57 decision over Wright City and Colbert girls 54-21 over Haworth.


Losers were Calera girls in a 49-41 loss to Wright City and Colbert boys, who fell 49-19 against Haworth.


All four teams will play on Friday in Purcell in elimination games. Calera girls play at 1:30, followed by Colbert boys at 3 p.m., then Colbert girls play at 6:30 with Calera boys in action at 8 p.m.


Any victories among the four teams will put them back in action Saturday in Purcell for a chance to go to the Area round next week. The girls final will be held at 1:30 p.m. and the boys follow at 3 p.m.


Calera boys 72 Wright City 57


All five Bulldog starters scored in double digits with Bradley McKnight leading the pack at 23 points. Johnathan Diamond scored 13, Braxton Barton 12, Tanner Davis and Connor Hamilton 11 each.


Colbert girls 54 Haworth 21


The Lady Leopards went ahead 16-1 after the first quarter and held a 30-8 halftime lead on the Lady Lions.


Taytiana Gray led all Colbert scorers with 14, Hannah Wilson had 12, Maddison Poteet nine, Rachel Anders six, Gwenesha Love five, Samantha Cummins four, Chanda Sinor and Dere Young two each.


Wright City girls 49 Calera 41


The LadyDawgs shot 18-for-19 from the free throw line, led by Raylee Rogers (12-for-12) who scored 16 points. The game was tied 22-22 at the break but the LadyJax went on a 27-19 second-half run to close out the game.


“We just missed some shots at the end,” said Calera Coach LaChelle Brown. “But the girls played hard and I was proud of their effort. They must have mental toughness, try and match the intensity we had tonight. We’ve got to push through it and go win a game.”


Taylor Pickett scored 11, Madi Robinson 10, Maddie Partain and Micaela Curtman two each.


Haworth boys 49 Colbert 19


The Lions scored the first 14 points and raced ahead to a 32-8 halftime lead in the regional winner’s bracket game. Colbert was held scoreless in the third quarter while holding Haworth to six. The Leopards recovered with 11 points in the fourth.


Peyton Whitehead scored 13 of Colbert’s points, while Darius Johnson, McKlain Marquez and Kason Krob scored two each.
