BYNG - The Silo Rebels (22-8) season came to an end Friday afternoon as they fell to Christian Heritage Crusaders 49-40 in area playoffs.

It turned out to be the Kendall Shives shooting show for the Rebels. Shives scored over half of Silo’s points as he posted a team high 22 points. Lance House pitched eight points, Andrew Bolin dropped in six points and Leonard Sandler finished with four points.

It was a defensive and physical game as neither team could shake the other for three periods.

In the first period, the Crusaders grabbed a quick 4-0 lead. Then Shives took over. He would hit a 3-pointer to bring the scored to 4-3. Then Shives led the Rebels on a 7-0 run as he scored all seven points to give Silo a 10-5 lead. The Rebels finished the quarter with a 12-9 lead.

The Crusaders rallied in the second period as the Silo shooters went cold. House and Bolin scored all of the points for Silo in the period. House had four points and Bolin kept his team alive with two 3-pointers. But with time running down the Crusaders made a shot at the buzzer to tie the game at 22 apiece at the half.

At the start of the third quarter, the Crusaders jumped out to a 29-24 lead. Then Shives again put his team on his shoulders and scored the next seven points for Silo and tied the game at 31-all. But the Crusaders managed to go on a 5-2 run to take a 36-33 lead headed in to fourth period.

With game still in the balance in the final frame of the game, Silo was down 38-37 with six minutes remaining in regulation. Then the Rebel shooters went cold as the Crusaders went on a 7-0 run and led 45-37 with 1:32 on the clock. But Shives wasn’t going to let Silo go down that easy and hit a huge 3-pointer and cut the Crusaders lead to 45-40 with 1:21 still on the clock. But Silo couldn’t buy a basket after that and the Crusaders closed out the game at the free-throw line.

Even though they didn’t make to state, the Silo Rebels and head coach Dax Simon had a remarkable season with a 22-8 record and ranked at No. 13 in Class 2A. It’s a season to be proud of.
