Senior Brandon Maynard twirled his fourth straight complete game on the mound but it wasn’t enough for the Durant Lions, falling 2-1 to McAlester in a nail-biter to slip to 5-2 in district play.
Maynard scattered four hits, allowed one earned run, struck out one and walked none over six innings but took the tough-luck loss as the Buffaloes broke a 1-1 deadlock with a run in the sixth.
The Lions got their lone run in the fifth when Brandon Robison singled and eventually scored on a ground out by Maynard.
Robison and Matthew Knox had the lone hits for the Durant offense.
The teams will meet again at 5 p.m. today at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex to close out the district series.
Hunter Burkett fired five strong innings on the mound to spur the Lions to a 2-0 victory as he yielded four singles, struck out one and didn’t walk a batter as the JV Lions improved to 10-3.
Durant broke a scoreless deadlock in the third when Hayden Burkett walked in front of a two-out double by Tyler Shade and RBI single from Jake Smith.
The final run came in the fifth when Hunter Burkett reached on an error and courtesy runner Matthew Knox stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch.
