DURANT, Okla. - Southeastern baseball returns home for the first time in nearly three weeks when it hosts Great American Conference rival No. 25 Arkansas-Monticello for a three game series April 4-5 at The Ballpark in Durant. Game one of the series is slated for 2 p.m. on Friday, with a Saturday double-header slated to begin at noon.
The Savage Storm come into the contest with a 16-16 record overall and a 7-11 record in GAC play.
SE is coming off a road win over Northeastern State and has won four of its last six contests, but is currently ninth in the league standings and in need of wins to climb back into the top six in the standings by season’s end to earn a trip to the post-season tournament.
Three of Southeastern’s last four games have been decided by one run, with two of those coming as one-run losses to No. 4 Southern Arkansas in the last weekend series.
The Storm is paced on offense by Chevis Springer who is hitting .325 on the season with 26 runs scored, three triples, a home run and 12 RBI along with 13 stolen bases.
Cody Coats leads the team in home runs with four, connecting on his two most recent homer in the win over NSU.
Coats also leads the team in RBI with 18, while a total of nine hitters have driven in 10 or more runs.
The Storm pitching staff carries a team ERA of 3.63 which is good for third in the league, led by Mason Crenshaw who has made 14 appearances, all in relief, with a 4-1 record, seven saves, and a 1.85 ERA.
Three SE starters have ERA’s below 4.00, with Jaime Paxton posting a 2.36 mark with a 2-1 record, while Canyon Conley and Nick Johnson are at 3.32 and 3.35, respectively, with two wins each.
Conley leads the team in strikeouts with 49 on the year which is seventh best in the GAC.
UAM comes into the series with a 24-11 mark overall and a 14-7 mark in league play, but has struggled on the road this year with a 7-8 road record.
The Boll Weevils are coming off a loss to nationally-ranked Delta State which snapped a seven-game winning streak that included back-to-back sweeps of GAC foes Harding and East Central.
UAM features a trio of hitters over the .300 mark, led by Ben Agredano who is hitting .387 on the year with a team-best 37 RBI, while Austin Braddock has a team-high six home runs.
The Weevil pitching staff boasts a 3.55 team ERA, led by closer Jeff Harvill who is 2-1 on the year with seven saves and a 1.83 ERA in 13 appearances.
Kade Garlington leads the team in wins with a 7-2 record as well as strikeouts with 33.
