SHAWNEE – Missed opportunities were the story for the Durant Lions Thursday night, dropping a 7-2 decision on the road against district-leading Shawnee.

The Lions had their chances while loading the bases in each of the first two innings but failed to score any runs in either frame. In total, Durant stranded 14 base runners.

Shawnee meanwhile cashed in most of its chances coupling a pair of hits around a Lion error in the first frame to plate three runs. The Wolves tacked on two more in the third and another in the fourth to build a 6-0 lead.

Durant mounted a comeback bid in the fifth by capitalizing on two errors by the hosts to plate two runs but that proved to be it.

Dakota Finley posted a pair of hits to lead the Lion attack. Matthew Knox chipped in a double while Cooper Webb, Brandon Robison, Austin Joines and Tyler Stovall added a single apiece.

The Lions return home Monday to face off with Ada for their next action before the McAlester 5A Shootout, which is slated to begin Thursday.
