COLBERT - Colbert Leopards had to rally from five runs down to beat the Tushka Tigers, 9-8, on Thursday afternoon at the ballpark in Colbert. It was a battle of top ranked teams as Tushka is ranked No.3 and Colbert is ranked No. 5 in Class 2A.
Colbert’s Kason Krob took the mound and pitched a complete game for the win.
The Tigers came out with the hot bats and took a 5-0 lead by the third inning. Then Colbert began to chip away at the the Tiger’s lead.
In the bottom of the third inning, Colbert’s Chris Roberts hit a RBI fielder’s choice ball that begun Colbert’s comeback.
In the fourth inning, Ethan Williams smashed the ball into the outfield for a RBI that cut into Tushka’s lead, 5-2.
Krob would hit a double to start the fifth inning and Roberts once again knocked in his teammate with a RBI double. Colbert trailed 5-3.
Colbert would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as six runners cross home plate.
The Tigers begun the inning with two errors that put two Colbert batters on base. Zach Lovelace put down a bunt, but a throwing error put Lovelace on base and run scored. Then with bases loaded, Roberts drew a walk and another run scored. Colten Bruce would hit a SAC-RBI to give the Leopards a 6-5 lead. The was bases were loaded again when Keller Cummins stepped into the batters box and hit the ball on a rope to the outfield wall for a 3-RBI triple to give Colbert a 9-5 lead.
Tushka did try to rally in the top of the seventh inning and scored three runs, but Krob put an end to the Tigers comeback as he struck out the last two batters.
