BLUE — The Rock Creek Lady Mustangs run-ruled opponents in all three games Thursday to claim the slow-pitch District 7 title and advance to Regionals next week.
The hosts blanked Boswell 10-0 in five innings, and took down Turner 12-1 in six innings and 12-0 in four innings.
Boswell was sent home on a 13-1 loss to Achille. But the Lady Eagles were eliminated on 14-4 and 15-2 losses to Turner.
Rock Creek 10, Boswell 0
For the Lady Mustangs, Macy Eiler hit a two-run home run in the first inning for her only hit of the game. Harlee Heflin had a double and a single. Kaytlin Blackburn and Kristen Robinson each hit a pair of singles. Ashlyn Robinson contributed a double. Arie Young and Carol Scott finished with a single apiece.
For Boswell, Chelsea Burns, Virginia Beddo, Courtney Fomby and Lyndsay Jackson had one-base hits.
Turner 14, Achille 4
Turner’s first at-bat turned into a 4-0 lead after two runs scored on an infield error and a hit that probably should’ve been a triple over the right-fielder’s head turned into a two-run homer.
The Lady Falcons added three in the third, four in the fourth to take a 12-0 lead. Achille short stop Cassidy Collins made a sideways, partially backward catch to go into the bottom of the fourth. She led off the frame with a double up the middle. Hanna Alley followed with a line-drive out to Turner’s short stop. But on a missed throw to second for the double-play attempt, Collins was able to score. Sequoyah King took a walk but was left stranded.
Turner added one run in the fifth.
After Racheal Alexander reached on a walk, Amber Hamby hit a single to shallow center. Taylor Upchurch’s single over short stop loaded the bases. Ashley Brown grounded out to the second baseman, but that scored a run.
With two outs, Collins placed an RBI single over second base, and another run crossed the plate on a bad throw home.
Turner added another run in the sixth, when Achille only left two stranded to end the game.
Achille 13, Boswell 1
Boswell scored its only run in the top of the first inning. Following Jonna Belvin’s fly out to left field, Chelsea Burns hit a single over the third baseman. After Brenna Poe flied out on a foul, Sarrah Crawford got a single and extra base when the outfielder couldn’t pick it up to put runners at second and third. Burns was able to score on Virginia Beddo’s fly that was dropped in left-center.
Achille tied it in the bottom of the frame. With bases loaded, Sequoyah King batted into a tag out at third. A double-play attempt at first allowed a run to score.
The Lady Eagles added three in the third. An error on single by Kiersten Brown let her get two extra bases and two runs on the board. Brown scored on a double by Madison Stanglin.
Achille broke it open for the run rule in the fourth. An error with bases loaded got the first run across. Then, King knocked in three more with a triple, and Cheyenne Dillingham got an RBI single up the middle. Boswell pitcher Burns walked four batters out five to put the last two across the plate.
Rock Creek 12, Turner 1
Macy Eiler hit a two-run homer off a pole above the right-center fence to give Rock Creek the 2-0 first-inning lead.
The Lady Mustangs added two more in the second off a ground out by Michaela Stinson and a single to shallow center by Carol Scott.
Two more came in the third on RBI singles by Arie Young and Kristen Robinson to make it 6-0.
Rock Creek started the sixth with a double to right field by Michelle Wheeler and a sinle up the middle by Karrie Blackburn. Ashlyn Robinson’s fly was dropped and brought in Wheeler. Scott hit an RBI single and got an extra base an error to put runners at second and third. Megan Robinson then got one out of the short stop’s reach for an RBI single. And Kaytlin Blackburn got one out of the park for a three-run homer.
Young and Harlie Heflin were left stranded after hitting singles.
Turner managed to get a run across in the bottom of the sixth to erase the zero.
Turner 15, Achille 2
Achille was down 4-0 after one and 9-0 after two.
After Kiersten Brown took a walk to start the third, the Lady Eagles took advantage of two errors to get home.
Achille committed several errors of its own in the bottom of the frame, not helped by a two-run home run over the right field fence, to get in a 15-1 hole.
Hanna Alley took a walk in the top of the fourth scored on an error, but it wasn’t nearly enough to extend Achille’s season.
Rock Creek 12, Turner 0
After a scoreless first inning, Rock Creek put up five in the bottom of the second.
Kristen Robinson reached on an error in left-center before Michelle Wheeler dropped a single in right-center. Then, Michaela Stinson’s single over the second baseman scored Robinson and put runners at first and third. That set up Wheeler to tag up and score on Carol Scott’s sacrifice fly to left-center.
Megan Robinson’s single to shallow left-center put another duck on the pond. That’s when Kaytlin Blackburn blasted a three-run homer over the right-center fence to give Rock Creek the 5-0 lead after two innings.
Macy Eiler started the third with a walk and Harlie Heflin reached on a fielder’s choice error when the second baseman dropped a toss from the short stop. After Kristen Robinson flied out to the second baseman, an error by the short stop let Michelle Wheeler get on first and Eiler to score.
Karrie Blackburn followed all that with an RBI single up the middle, and Stinson dropped a single over the third baseman’s head to load the bases. Scott put one in play several feet in front of the plate. Wheeler scored as the pitcher opted to go to first, not in time for the out. The first baseman bobbled the transfer and tried to throw home. That prompted Scott to attempt second. She was tagged out, but Blackburn also scored in the ruckus.
Kaytlin Blackburn kicked off the fourth with a single and got an extra base on an error. She scored on a double by Arie Young. After Ashlyn Robinson dropped a single in shallow left-center, Eiler put of a sacrifice fly to score Young.
With two outs, Kristen Robinson made contact. An error by the short stop ended with Robinson sliding under a tag at home that called the run rule into effect.
