On Friday, Colbert senior Darius Johnson signed his letter of intent with Murray State College to play basketball next season.
Johnson had his choice of schools and he picked MSC for reasons that suited his needs.
“It’s close,” said Johnson. “I didn’t want to go too far away. They have what I wanted to do class-wise. I have had friends and family members play basketball at Murray. Coach and I are really close and he kind of willed me to it.”
Johnson will take on his natural position at MSC, but not at first.
“I’ll be playing shooting guard, but I think I’m going to red-shirt my first year,” said Johnson. “I have already been to a couple of practices and I love the team. They are really good guys. I’m ready to see what this season holds.”
Going off to college means different surroundings, but Johnson is ready to make the move.
“It’s bitter-sweet. I’ll miss high school basketball, but I’m ready to move on to a new chapter.”
Johnson will major in sports injury prevention and said he wants to be a coach.
