Quite a few area high-school athletes have received statewide recognition for their performances during the 2013-14 the school year.


Durant has two Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State selections in golfers Sydni McKaughan and Rheagan Jones. The girls, whose local coach is Tanner Dupree, will play for the East team.


They will tee off in the OCA event slated for 8:30 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Cherokee Hills Golf Club, 777 W. Cherokee St., Catoosa.


Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association named Caddo’s Tobi Miller to the Small East All-State basketball team. She was traveling to Westmoore High School in Oklahoma City to play in that game Saturday.


Two area Choctaw athletes will play in the 19th annual Oklahoma Indiana All-State Basketball Games June 14 in the Mueller Sports Center at Oklahoma Wesleyan University and another will be recognized.


Calera’s Taylor Pickett will take the court as a member of the girls first team and Boswell’s Tracy Brown on the boys first team. Bennington’s Ashton Belvin was named to the girls second team.


From 100-plus nominations, 24 girls and 24 boys were chosen for each first team. Another 28 were picked for the second team and will appear in the games’ official program.


The girls game will start at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.


The Oklahoma High School Fast-Pitch Softball Coaches Association included Tushka outfielder Kelsey Chambers in its list of all-state picks.


She was invited to play on the Small East team at 1 p.m. June 7 at the OU Softball Complex.


The Oklahoma Slow-Pitch Softball Coaches Association opens its all-state eligibility to high-school seniors. Five area athletes were picked to play in matchups slated for June 14 at the University of Oklahoma.


For the small schools East team, those were Class 2A state champion Rock Creek Lady Mustangs’ Michelle Wheeler and Harlie Heflin. Their game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.


Selections for the middle-sized schools East team — set to play at 1 p.m. — are Calera short stop Taylor Pickett and Tushka’s Kelsey Chambers and Lindsay Broughton.


The OCA also released its lists of all-star selections according to sport and classification of the athletes’ high school.

According to OCA, baseball selections will be announced soon. That all-state game is scheduled for July 29 at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, with small schools playing at 4:30 p.m. and large schools at 7.


An Oklahoma Soccer Coaches Association representative informed The Democrat that its honorees would be released next week.
