Gabrielle Ford has signed on to play golf at Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport, La. She put pen to paper July 3 at Silverado Golf Course in Durant.
Ford was a member of the Durant Lady Lions golf team that placed second at state in May. The girls had to battle wind and rain to post a two-day total of 691. Ford finished 14th overall, shooting a 90 and 93.
At the regional tournament in McAlester, Ford shot an 87 to tie for fifth place and help her team set a new school record of 335.
Coach Tanner Dupree has told The Democrat, “Gabbi made the biggest strides for this team between last year and this year. She dropped her stroke average by nearly eight shots.”
Ford played four years on the varsity team. She’s the daughter of Gary and Patti Feltman, Durant. Proud grandparents are James and Phyllis Feltman, Blue, Charlotte Witt, Kingston, and the late George Witt.
In addition to spending some time on the green, Ford will focus on academics. She will major in chemistry to become a pharmacist.
Centenary is an NCAA Division III school and competes in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. First on the fall 2014 schedule for the women’s golf team is a Sept. 29-30 tournament hosted by the University of Texas-Tyler.
