CALERA — The Calera Bulldogs pulled out a 4-1 win in hosting the Boswell Scorpions Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs had half the hits of the visiting team with five, but Boswell committed four errors in the contest. Also, Calera left 10 runners on base to Boswell’s nine.
Calera grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, added two in the third and another in the fourth. Boswell’s lone run came in the fifth, when Cameron Roberts batted in Blaine Brown.
Roberts also pitched for the Scorpions. Through six innings, he struck out seven and walked four.
Jesse Collett threw seven innings for Calera. He struck out five, walked two and allowed 10 hits.
The home-field offense included three singles by Shawn Harper. Collett and Dakota Jackson were credited with an RBI each. Josh Loper hit a single, and Brayden Langley put down a successful bunt.
Offensively for Boswell, Blake Shults hit a double and a single. Blaine Brown and Caleb Brown finished with a pair of singles each. Roberts, Dusty Belvin, K. Roberts and McKenna Pierce each contributed a one-bagger.
Calera (2-0) will be in action at home again today, welcoming Bennington for a 4 o’clock start.
Boswell (1-1) will host Leflore and Haworth in round-robin play beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
