CALERA - Teams arrived for day two of Calera’s softball tournament on Friday.
Calera Lady Bulldogs got a split as they beat Bennington Lady Bears, 9-3, in game one and later fell to Turner Lady Falcons, 5-2. Achille Lady Eagles were eliminated along with Boswell. Achille was beat by Coleman 10-1 and Boswell fell to Madill.
Calera vs Bennington:
The Lady Bulldogs drew first blood in the first inning. Ricki Harper and Ashlen Cooper both got on base due to errors. Then Taylor Smith stepped up to the plate and drove her teammates with a 2 RBI single that gave Calera a 2-0 lead. But Bennington struck back in the second inning and tied the game 2-2.
Calera took the lead back, 3-2, in the third inning when Cooper drove in a run on a RBI single. But Bennington tied the game again in the fourth inning on a sac-bunt, 3-3.
The Lady Bulldogs would score again in the bottom of the fourth inning on SAC-RBI by M. Partain and led 4-3. Then Calera added another run in the fifth inning with a basesloaded walk and lead 5-3.
The Lady Bulldogs put the game away in the seventh inning when Harper hit a 2 RBI double and went on to win 9-3.
Calera vs Turner:
The game was scoreless until the top of third inning when Turner got two runs on the scoreboard with RBI triple and RBI single. Calera trailed, 2-0.
The Lady Bulldogs struck back in the bottom of third inning when Kalie Ervin hit into a fielder’s choice and Lanie Rogers scored from third base and cut into Turner’s lead, 2-1.
But Turner turned up the heat and put up three runs in the fourth inning and led, 5-1.
Calera would score their final run in the bottom of the fourth inning after Taylor Smith hit a sac-fly, but the rally ended there as Turner held on for the win.
Achille vs Coleman:
While Achille Lady Eagles struggled in the 10-1 loss to Coleman, there was a bright spot for Achille. Cloe Dettrich was the lead-off hitter for the Lady Eagles in the second inning when she found the pitch she like and hammered it to center field. The ball got pass the outfielder and Dettrich raced around the bases for a inside-the-park home run.
