For the third-straight year, Southeastern Oklahoma State University tennis will present the “Rock the Courts Pro-Am Tournament.” The event features Southeastern players pairing with local community members for doubles tennis action on Sept. 9 at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
The fundraiser is slated for a 6 p.m. start time. It is open to the public and will feature music, fun and great tennis.
In 2013, approximately 300 fans of the university and SE tennis passed through the complex throughout the night, culminating when Kent Rogers and Petar Popovic topped Jeff Corson and Chris Burns in the tournament’s championship match.
“We want to invite everyone out to support the program,” said men’s tennis coach Shawn Hamil. “The event last year was great and the community support was outstanding. We are expecting [this year] to be just as good or better, and there will be plenty of good doubles play to watch while having a great time on the courts.”
The tournament will consist of 16 players divided into doubles teams featuring one Savage Storm tennis player and one community member.
“One of the things we continually want to accomplish as a program is to reach out to the community and promote the sport of tennis in Durant and around the area,” Hamil said.
Last season’s event was a success on that front. Plus, it raised $1,500 for the Southeastern tennis programs.
