SHAWNEE — It was a tough weekend for the Durant Lady Lion softball team, winning just one of five games in the power-packed Shawnee Tournament to falling to 7-6 on the season.
The lone Durant victory came in the tournament finale as they clipped 6A Sapulpa, 3-1.
Three first-inning runs stood up for the win behind the five-hit combined pitching effort of Sydney Hampton and Kylie Williams. Williams worked six of those frames, scattering five hits, one unearned run and struck out eight for the victory.
Destinee Lewis’ two-run homer was the key blow while Alexa Richards also chipped in a RBI. Kylie Manning and Hannah Hime totaled two hits each with Shayla Harper, Lewis, Richards, Logan Hime and Nicole Jackson notching one.
In the opening contest, the Lady Lions outhit 6A Stillwater, 10-8, but suffered a 5-2 defeat.
Riley Andis, Macy Powell, Manning and Hampton each had two hits in that contest with Andis and Manning driving in runs.
Durant then fell to Deer Creek, 5-3, as Hampton had two hits again while Lewis tripled and drove in a pair.
The Lady Lions couldn’t get much offense going against Pryor in a 5-0 loss, managing five hits with Harper contributing two of those.
In Saturday’s opener, Durant trailed 1-0 through five innings in a nail-biter against Collinsville, which eliminated them in the regional a year ago. But the Lady Cardinals pulled away with a seven-run sixth for an 8-0 triumph.
Richards and Hampton posted two hits apiece to pace the offense.
The Lady Lions’ next action is slated for Thursday at Tulsa Edison with a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
