ACHILLE - The police department in this southern Bryan County town is down to one officer after several resigned Tuesday following the termination of Police Chief Eric Shane Guhl.
Former Achille police Captain Allen Golden confirmed that Guhl was terminated at a meeting of the town council on Tuesday. The Democrat had reported last week Guhl was originally terminated on Feb. 1, but was told by Mayor Dean Collins he would be reinstated at the Tuesday meeting.
Golden said all but one Achille police officer resigned their posts after the council’s decision. Non-emergency calls to Achille Police Department were being forwarded to the Bryan County Communications Center as of Wednesday morning.
The Democrat could not immediately confirm reports that Collins resigned as mayor during the meeting. Vice Mayor Rhonda Howery was not available for comment early Wednesday, and Achille town personnel said there would be no comment on the matter.
