DURANT — A noise complaint led to marijuana charges being filed against two apartment tenants.
Evan Scott Earles, 25, Durant, and Jeffrey Aaron Langley, 28, Hugo were charged Tuesday with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Police were dispatched last month to a Wood Manor Apartment on Wilson Street to investigate a noise complaint. According to an affidavit by Durant Police Sgt. Jim Smarr, Langley opened the door and police smelled an odor of burning marijuana.
Langley let officers in and Earles came out of a bedroom, the affidavit states. Officers saw marijuana on a dresser and Earles disclosed that there was marijuana inside a freezer.
Police pulled a shopping bag out of the freezer that contained more than a pound of green, leafy substance, according to the affidavit, and Earles admitted to selling marijuana so he could smoke it for free.
Langley, according to police, said he only sells “here and there” to help friends who stop by.
In other crime news, Steven Paul Self, 30, Durant, a motorcyclist was charged Tuesday with eluding a police officer. He was arrested Sunday after authorities said he led officers on a three-county chase that began in Durant and ended in Grayson County, Texas.
Patrolman Wesley Crank tried to stop Self, who was riding a Suzuki motorcycle on South 21st Avenue, according to court papers. Police said Self turned on West Main Street, traveled on West Highway 70 to Marshal County and then into Texas.
