BENNINGTON – The Bears went on an early scoring spree to defeat the struggling Wapanucka Indians 61-28 on Friday.

Four Bears shared scoring duties, with Ryan Lott and Chance Haislip collecting 16 each while Tad Holt and Isaac Perez added 13 apiece. Dillon Clark (2) and Trevor McWilliams (1) added fourth quarter free throws.

Bennington (12-5) outpaced “Wapy” 25-6 in the first quarter, helped by a pair of threes from Perez off the bench. The Bears relaxed a bit in the second but still held a hefty 39-17 lead at the break.

Nathan Wall led the Indians with eight points, followed by seven from Patrick McCarty. Dakota Dewbry added five and Joey Schanz had four to round out Wapanucka’s leading scorers.

According to Coachesaid.com, the Indians were 2-13 not counting a pair of unreported scores earlier this month. They are 0-7 against Bryan County teams. This week Wapanucka will host the 1-10 Mill Creek Bullfrogs.

Bennington will visit Achille on Tuesday looking to improve on the Bears’ 18th ranking among Class B teams. But Austin Beene of the Eagles will be ready, after torching Victory Life Academy for 45 points in an overtime loss last week.
