A meeting of the Bryan County Commissioners was held on Monday September 24. The meeting approved a medical bid for the new jail and a name change to a county road.
Handy Street located off of Franklin Lane north of Colbert will be renamed Carey Lane.
The name is to be changed because there are currently two streets named Handy in close proximity to each other in the area.
The commissioners were asked to change the name to alleviate confusion between the streets and where each leads to.
A bid of $150,000 was approved for the hiring of a staff to provide medical services for the Bryan County Jail.
The contract will go into effect on October 1 and last until June 30, 2013 which will be the end of the county’s fiscal year.
Also approved in Monday’s meeting were contracts with both Terminex and Advantech to perform pest control in county buildings.
Each company is assigned a separate set of county buildings to service. This was decided upon to get all pest control services at the most cost efficient rate for the county building.
