Calera Police are seeking the public’s help to catch those responsible for vandalizing Rose Hill Cemetery.

Assistant Police Chief T. J. White said approximately 15 gravestones were toppled. City workers discovered the damage Friday.

“The headstones that are damaged are some of the oldest ones in the cemetery,” White said.

White said his first reaction was disgust.

“Who would do that?” White said. “It shows a complete lack of respect. It’s just sickening.”

The vandalism may have happened Thursday evening, according to White. Police were busy investigating a stabbing that evening and White said the cemetery is normally patrolled in the evening and early morning hours.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Calera Police at (580) 434-7000.
