COLEMAN — The Calera Lady Bulldogs picked up their eighth win of the regular season on Tuesday night with a 46-30 victory over the Coleman Lady Wildcats. Raylee Rogers scored 13 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs in scoring.

Lynsie Patton followed with 11 points and Taylor Pickett also scored in double-figures with 10 points. Micaela Curtman finished with 7 points and Ashlyn Cooper and Kaylee Ervin each chipped in two points apiece.

The Lady Bulldogs started off strong and jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the opening quarter. Coleman closed the quarter with buckets from Kami Sharp and Brin James to make it 9-5 after the first.

Calera started to open things up on the offensive end in the second quarter and took a 28-14 lead at halftime.

The Lady Bulldogs maintained their lead in the second half and led 35-20 after the third quarter. Calera closed things out in the fourth quarter with three-pointers from Patton and Curtman.

“Overall, I was pleased with our hustle,” said Calera coach Lachelle Brown. “We were able to score in transition but we didn’t do as well in our half-court set. But we shot the ball better in the second half.”

Summer Bob Box and Sara Horath both scored five points to lead the Lady Wildcats in scoring. Chancie Johnston and James chipped in four points apiece. Jessica Daniel, Kyleigh Morgan, and Sharp each finished with three points.

The Lady Bulldogs will resume play on Thursday in the opening round of the Tushka Tournament.

Calera 49 Coleman 45

The Calera Bulldogs escaped with a 49-45 victory in an entertaining second game against a tough Coleman Wildcats team. After trailing for the majority of the third quarter, Braxton Barton scored to give the Bulldogs a 34-33 lead heading into the fourth.

The Wildcats regained the lead in the fourth quarter with a strong start from Lucas Hamilton but Barton scored again for the Bulldogs to tie the game, 45-45 with a little over two minutes left.

On the ensuing Coleman possession, the Bulldogs forced a turnover and Connor Hamilton scored to give Calera the lead.

The Wildcats were unable to answer in the final seconds and Johnathon Diamond hit a couple of clutch free-throws to help the Bulldogs finish things off. “We were able to hit some free throws in the fourth quarter and those last few at the end were big,” said Calera coach Justin Pierce.

Coleman led 11-8 after the first quarter. Cannon Sharp scored a couple of quick buckets for the Wildcats in the second quarter on nice passes from Hunter Evans and Cooper Stephens.

A 6-0 scoring run gave the Wildcats some breathing room and Jesse Hicks scored in the final seconds to make it 24-16 at halftime.

Barton scored six points in the third quarter and Tanner Davis scored eight as the Bulldogs turned the tide. Diamond scored eight of his eleven points in the fourth as the Bulldogs held on for the win.

Barton was the leading scorer for Calera and finished with 15 points. Davis finished with 10 points and Diamond scored 11 points. Connor Hamilton scored six points and Tyler Black chipped in three points.

“I thought we played well defensively but we still need to get smarter on the offensive end,” said Pierce after the game.

Lucas Hamilton led the Wildcats in scoring with 18 points. Hamilton scored nine of his eighteen in the fourth quarter. Hunter Evans finished with three points and had to leave the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury.

Cannon Sharp finished with nine points, Cooper Stephens finished with five points and James Hicks scored seven points.

Both teams will play again on Thursday with the Bulldogs playing in the first round of the Tushka Tournament and the Wildcats hosting the Tupelo Tigers.
