A Sherman, Texas, man accused of eluding Calera Police last month has been charged with five crimes.

Casey Lee Weimer, 38, has been charged with felony eluding police officers and running a roadblock, plus misdemeanor charges of malicious injury to property, failure to carry insurance verification and driving without a license.

According to an affidavit, Calera Police Officer Mark McMurry stopped a pickup June 25 on Highway 69-75. McMurry exited his patrol car and spoke to the driver who then pushed the accelerator and sped off.

A chase began and the driver turned onto West Main Street in Calera, according to the affidavit, and the driver drove recklessly through the town. He went through a roadblock set up by Officer Keith Barfield, almost striking the officer, and also plowed over a stop sign at Dansby Lane and South McKinley Street.

The chase continued southbound on Highway 69-75 and across the Red River into Texas when the pursuit was terminated. The affidavit states that a Colbert officer identified the driver as Weimer from the Calera patrol car’s video footage, and that a warrant had previously been issued for the arrest of Weimer for a pursuit in April with Colbert Police.

He also is wanted for a pursuit involving Bryan County deputies in February, plus has warrants for his arrest in Arkansas and Texas, according to the affidavit.

A warrant has been issued for Weimer’s arrest.
