Durant City Council held a special meeting on Thursday and during the meeting the council accepted three grants offered to the city as well as an agreement for a new car rental in Durant.
City Council discussed an agreement with Thrifty Car Rental to be located at the Durant Regional Airport- Eaker Field.
Both City Council and Durant Airport Authority approved the agreement.
The car rental will have two parking lot spaces for cars to be kept at the airport and all rentals will be managed through the airport.
The City of Durant will receive eight percent of all concession on time and mileage on all rentals.
Thrifty Car Rental has no Durant office but will get one if the need arises said owner, Wendell Steward Jr.
Steward also said that an off-site car storage would be a possibility as the business expands. This would allow for more than two cars will be available to rent.
He also said to the council that the addition of Thrifty Car Rental will increase exposure for the city due to having a car rental in town.
He said the car rental would be on travel sites such as Expedia and Travelocity. Since the car rental would be listed under Durant, the city would gain exposure.
