DURANT – The Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival invites you to enjoy the magic of the Teen and Children’s Theatre Workshop productions of Honk! and Scenes From Disney, opening June 27-July 1.

The Children’s Theatre Workshop will be performing, Scenes From Disney, featuring scenes from Disney classics Toy Story, Hercules, Mary Poppins, 101 Dalmatians, and Bambi. Riley Coker, director of both shows, said although this year’s production is different than in years past, it has been “a wonderful experience.”

“It has been great allowing children in each group to be leading roles – with recognizable character names and traits. I think the kids have enjoyed the chance to play really standout roles and be able to have their moment in the spotlight,” said Roker. “I am so proud of this group of kids.”

Honk! is a West End hit musical adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story The Ugly Duckling. The story follows Ugly, a duckling who is rejected by everyone but his mother, a sly tomcat who wants to eat Ugly, and several other barnyard creatures.

When discussing the Teen Theatre’s production of Honk!, Roker stated it was “by far the most complicated production on which the Teen Theatre Workshop has worked. Don’t let the fact that this show tells a children’s story fool you into thinking this is a ‘kiddy show’. The music and choreography required for this production are extremely advanced.”

With musical direction from Deborah Clements, Roker went on to say “this is a very talented group of young people. It has been an eye-opening experience to work on this show and watch them rise to the challenge this material presents them.”

Performances for Honk! will be held June 27-28 at 7:30 p.m. and June 29 at 6:30 p.m. Performances for Scenes from Disney will be June 29 at 7:30 p.m., June 30 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and July 1 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 at the door and $5 for seniors and students.
