A special day has been planned at the Colbert Downtown Gazebo, on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 6-8 p.m., hosted by the Colbert Historical Society.

The organization met in a special session to complete plans for a fun-filled evening.

An open invitation is extended to everyone who has an interest in the community. Everyone who attends will be served a variety of homemade sandwiches, complete with all the trimmings and cold refreshments, served by the Colbert Historical Society members.

The organizers make a special effort to have some special events downtown annually, since it closed out 25 years of its annual Frontier Day.

In addition to all of the free food, fellowship and prizes in a drawing, the group will introduce featured entertainer Larry Massey.

The evening will be filled with laughter and music as Massey presents himself, humbly and carefree. He will deliver a masterful and melodious medley in songs, sing-a-longs and jokes, and will have something special for everyone.

Massey, who is employed with the Denison Postal Service, spends his spare time making others as happy as he is. He and his wife Trish find great joy in ministering to individuals and groups.

For the past eight years, he has entertained at 10 assisted living centers, while he and his wife serve the Lord joyfully in every way possible. No one doubts their mission is to brighten the lives of others. They are outstanding members in the church, where they faithfully serve.

He played the drums and other instruments in night clubs with bands for almost 30 years before he was converted and dedicated his life to his Lord.

He has since produced several CDs, and his music is played regularly on 95.3 FM, a station out of Dallas. His current CDs (after leaving the club scene) are country gospel and traditional country.

Those who frequent the Denison Post Office have likely heard him singing in the background; he loves to sing while he works.

Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and plan for a relaxing evening in downtown Colbert.
