Tomorrow, the Colbert Lady Leopards will face the Alva Lady Goldbugs in the opening round of the class 2A state championship playoff bracket.

The game is set for 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Westmoore High School, 12613 S. Western Ave. in Oklahoma City.

Colbert, under Coach Chris Gillespie, comes in with a 25-4 record and a win streak of 15 games dating back to the start of January. The senior starting five includes Taylor Lyons at post, point guard Darian Bradford, as well as Bailee Weger, Katherine Hair and Ginavee Mowles.

Colbert is 4-0 in the playoffs, capturing three straight trophies (district, regional and area) but the games have gotten closer at each step.

The defeated Haworth by 42 (56-14) to win district; Colbert leveled area finalist Silo by 35 (59-24), then ousted Preston by 11 (63-52) to win the regional tournament. Last Friday, the Lady Leopards edged Oktaha by three (47-44) in overtime to reign as area champions.

Alva comes in with a 22-5 record and a slightly rougher road through the playoffs. They defeated Morrison 63-39 for the district crown, and defeated Christian Heritage School 79-46 and Pawnee 58-35 for the regional championship.

Their first playoff loss was a 40-39 decision to Thomas-Fay-Custer (also in the eight-team state field) in the area championship last week. But the Lady Bugs bounced back and ripped Ripley 55-35 for the back door path to the state tournament.

A win for Colbert would put them in a Friday night semifinal tilt against either Tonkawa or Dale.

Colbert is the only team from the Bryan County area to make the state basketball tournament. Other regional teams in the show:

3A Boys - Hugo vs. Millwood (7 p.m. Thursday at Yukon High School).

3A Girls - Hugo vs. Perkins-Tryon (3:30 p.m. Thursday at OKC Fairgrounds).

2A Boys - Latta vs. Talihina (2 p.m. Thursday at Oklahoma City University). The Golden Tigers of Talihina won the boys state title in 2011 under Chris Gillespie, who has now led the Colbert Lady Leopards to the Big House doorstep.

2A Boys - Haworth vs. Konawa (7 p.m. Thursday at Yukon). Southeastern freshman guard Quinton Threadgill will be rooting for his hometown Haworth Lions in this quarterfinal game.
