Bryan County Commissioners met Monday to discuss existing County contracts and reviewed policy changes. Commissioners also decided to donate a safe in the first floor of the courthouse to the Three Valley Museum.

The safe was in the county treasurer’s previous office when the treasurer relocated. The safe has no identifying marks such as a brand name or serial number.

The commissioners do not know how old the safe is or how long it has been in the office. Commissioners voted to donate it to the museum for any historical value it may have.

Commissioners decided to delay signing a contract for pest control of County Offices yet again. Advantech and Terminex presented originally proposed contracts to the board on Aug. 13.

The item was delayed so that the commissioners could review the county’s current contract with Terminex and compare the proposed contract.

During the Aug. 13 meeting, Advantech was advised to reword its contract to make its intentions clearer and Terminex was unable to tell commissioners the end date for the current contract.

In Monday’s meeting, issues with Advantech’s contract were resolved. Terminex however still could not give an end date for the current contract.

According to the commissioners, they had looked but could not locate a current contract with Terminex. The Terminex representative present did not have a copy of the contract present.

He told the board that the contract was effective until one of the parties took action with a 30-day notice to terminate the contract.

Commissioners disagreed, saying that contracts with the county only last one year.

The commissioners decided to notify Terminex with a written 30-day termination to make sure the current contract is no longer in effect.

Decisions on the proposed contracts will be held until the County Commissioner’s meeting on September 24 when the 30 days will be up.

Commissioners also reviewed the current contract for medical care at the county jails. In this original contract the end date was not set for a specific day.

The commissioners decided it would be best to have the contract end at the end of the fiscal year.

They plan to meet with the sheriff’s department and the nurse contracted to the jails to decide the best course of action.

In the meantime, the commissioners will advertise for bids on a contract for the position, giving other medical care facilities the opportunity to gain the position.

The contract would be from Oct. 1, 2012, through June 30 2013.
