Bryan County Commissioners discussed ongoing issues with the county jail projectat their regular meeting on Monday. The commissioners also discussed regulations for road crossing permits.

The county jail project has hit yet another snag. In the last jail progress meeting all contractors agreed to set Feb. 18 as the day for final inspection.

However, Mid-Plains Construction has informed the commissioners that they will not be ready by that date.

The company is awaiting the arrival of a smoke suppressant panel that is to be placed in the new facility.

Mid-Plains Construction reported that the piece of equipment will not arrive until March 18 pushing the earliest available inspection date to March 4.

So as not to hinder the other contractors and inspectors who have already made plans to have the inspection on Feb. 18, Monty Montgomery suggested having two inspections.

The second inspection on March 4 would be the financial responsibility of Mid-Plains Construction because of their error. No official motion was made on the matter.

Commissioners also discussed the regulations required by utility companies to receive a road crossing permit through the county.

In order to accommodate all utility services without forcing higher prices on residents, it was agreed that anybody requesting a road crossing for utility purposes must complete the application for a permit. However, the fee may be waived at the consent of the board of commissioners.

Also noted in the meeting was the current closure of the last two miles of Leavenworth Trail for road work. The section of the road to be closed stretches from Platter Road to Highway 69/75.

The project began Monday and will last approximately 90 days. The section of road is now closed to the public and only residents on the section are permitted to travel on it.

Monty Montgomery also said that the Bryan County Drug Court was ready to be moved into its new office on the first floor of the Bryan County Courthouse.
