TULSA (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Tulsa District has developed procedures to keep the public informed of the potential or actual presence of blue-green algae in its reservoirs in Oklahoma and Texas.

The Army Corps says it is complying with a new Oklahoma law concerning blue-green algae in state or municipally managed lakes.

The agency says it will partner with the Tourism Department to develop educational materials that will be posted at all Oklahoma lakes. The material will also be available for posting by marina operators and other concessionaires at Corps lakes in both states.

Officials say the educational flyers also will include safety messages about wearing life jackets and not operating motor vessels under the influence of alcohol.

The Corps also will refer the public to the website, www.checkmyoklake.com .
