It’s time to be thinking about nominations for the Bryan County Athletics Hall of Fame.

The 2010 induction ceremony is scheduled for finals night of the Bryan County Tournament, Jan. 23, in Southeastern’s Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Yes, that’s a few days away. Yes, it’s not too soon to get started.

County cagers tipped off the 2009-10 season Nov. 9 when Colbert visited Soper. Caddo gets a late start because of football and will host Kingston Dec. 1 to have high-school basketball in full swing.

Most fans have a favorite or two and can’t understand why those gals and guys haven’t been inducted.

Simple answer: It’s difficult to remember everybody who has played basketball, football, baseball or softball in Bryan County. The Hall of Fame is for players in all sports, despite some thinking it is only for basketball.

That’s why your nominations are important. Without them, your favorites may never be included.

Give it some thought, collect a bit of information and get those nominations in the mix.

Along with the players’ names, we need the school, years played, honors, stats, career after high school, or anything else you feel makes your favorite a worthy candidate.

Please drop off nominations at the Durant Daily Democrat marked for the Bryan County Hall of Fame, or e-mail them to me — hharmon@SE.edu.

January 23 will be here before you know it.

SOUTHEASTERN basketball is busy here next week.

Both teams were in action on the road this week.

Coach Darin Grover’s ladies will host St. Edward’s of Austin, Texas, in a 6 p.m. single game Tuesday.

Coach Tony Robinson’s men will host the University of Science and Arts in a 7 p.m. single game Wednesday.

The young ladies are hosting the SE Classic Friday and Saturday, taking on Hillsdale Baptist at 6 p.m. Friday and Southern Arkansas at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The men will play Southern Arkansas at 8 p.m. Saturday in the first gals/guys doubleheader of the season.

OKLAHOMA TIPOFF for 2009-10 is on the market and it’s worthwhile for fans of Oklahoma high-school basketball.

Fans are naturally more informed about their area teams and that’s why the Oklahoma TIPOFF is a good buy.

There are more than 900 team reports in the slick magazine with the glossy cover featuring three young ladies expected to be standouts this season.

The magazine has grown greatly since its inception and a Durant dude, Kevin Farr, was there when it started.

Farr is one of three editors of the magazine that delivers special features on stars and could-be stars, along with a look at all teams around the state.
