The first flag to be flown above the new Bryan county Courthouse Annex building was raised Friday morning. The flag was donated to the county by the Woodsmen of the World.

Woodsman of the World Lodge 558 Secretary Pat Metheny presented the flag to County Commissioner Monty Montgomery and Bryan County Sheriff Ken Golden.

Golden and Montgomery raised the flag in front of the Bryan County Courthouse Annex building. The building, which was previously a local library, has never flown a flag.

“Now that it is a county building, we thought we should have a flag,” said Montgomery.

He said that the county has made an effort to erect a flag at the building since moving into it.

The flag pole was placed approximately three weeks prior to the donation. According to Metheny, the Woodsmen of the World purchases and donates more flags than any other organization other than the federal government.

“It’s just something we do and we are proud to do it,” said Metheny. Metheny was chosen to make Friday’s presentation because she was recently selected to serve on the national board of directors for the Woodsmen of the World.
