The Durant Industrial Authority (DIA) met on Wednesday morning to discuss two pipeline projects under consideration for the Right-of-Way easement on the Durant Industrial Authority West Industrial Park Property.

The projects are the Natural Gas Liquid (NGL) and a high pressure Natural Gas pipelines.

NGL pipeline will be a 570-mile project that originates in Medford, Ok., just a few miles north of Enid, Ok. and traverse south through central Oklahoma and end at the Texas Gulf Coast near Houston, Texas. The pipeline will cut through the west side of Durant near the Cardinal Parkway.

The line will bring petroleum liquids from North Dakota to Houston.

At the moment, the concern is if the pipeline would hinder any future projects.

No structures are allowed to built on top of line. For example: If a parking lot is built on top the pipeline, the structure would be destroyed if problems occur and repairs are needed. Furthermore, construction of a road parallel and directly over the pipeline will not be allowed.

Others questions about the Industrial Park property are: If a business is approved for building near the site, would it be viable? Such as heavy equipment and trucks coming and going from the property. Would the traffic be prohibited by the easement?

What type of industries would be allowed to build on the site near the NGL pipeline?

The overall question for Durant is, what is the best use of that property? The DIA wants to protect future development of that property. So what will be the impact?

As far as the Natural Gas pipeline is concerned, it would be there for future business’s to tap into.

Officials said there is one benefit from the construction of the pipelines, jobs.

The DIA approved moving forward to bring these, and other, questions to the negotiations table with ONEOK Streling III Pipeline, L.L.C.
