A reception honoring David Brese will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday (July 8) at New Hope Church of the Nazarene, 1115 Red Bud Lane in Durant.

Brese will be inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame later this month. He coached football and baseball at Durant High School from 1980 to 2002, and was athletic director from 1994 to 1999.

He is currently the assistant principal at the high school. Brese’s friends, family, former players and students, fellow coaches and teachers are invited to come out Sunday and help him celebrate.

Brese will be inducted into the Coaches Hall of Fame during a July 22 dinner in Tulsa, along with 10 other Oklahoma coaches. He becomes the third Hall of Fame coach from Durant, after Gib Dolezal (inducted in 1998) and Gene Robbins (2008).

Other Hall of Fame coaches from Bryan County: Joe Laughlin (Calera 1971), Earl Cartwright (Colbert 1972), Wayne Merriman (Colbert 1995), and Gene Davis (Achille 1999).
