Jackson Stuteville and Seth Wheeler were selected to the All-State golf tournament and helped the East Region to a win last Monday.

The format had changed this year. There are no individual winners, it’s two regions facing off. East Region versus West Region.

The matches mirror that of the Ryder Cup style of play. It was six holes of Scramble format, six holes of Best Ball format and then six holes of Modified Alternate Shot format. Through those three formats, each team accumulated points based on their matches and the Region with most points win.

For Stuteville and Wheeler, it was personal goal to be pick for the All-State team, winning the game was the cherry on top.

“It felt great to help the East Region win. All of those guys have worked hard for a long time to be there, and it felt great to leave with a win.” said Stuteville.

However, it wasn’t all business for them. It was fun.

“My experience at All-State was wonderful. Everyone made us all feel very welcome and comfortable. The majority of the players that were members of both the East and West Region are very good friends of mine, and have very bright futures. All in all, it was something that I’ll never forget.” said Stuteville.

The All-State game was the last time these two will represent Durant Lions and play as teammates. “It felt great to win my last High School tourney as a Durant Lion,” said Wheeler, “I had a blast.”

His teammate shares his feelings about his time as a Durant Lion. “All-State ended my high school golf career. It was a great four years, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunities that were given me and I will always be grateful to the faculty and staff at Durant High School.” said Stuteville.
