Durant teen seriously injured in collision

A Durant teenager was hospitalized in serious condition Wednesday after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of US 70 and Silo Road three miles west of Durant, according to a report from Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

OHP Trooper Robby Keeling reported that a southbound 1996 Dodge truck driven by a 16-year-old from Mead “failed to yield at a stop sign” and was struck in the passenger door by a 2012 Ford truck driven by Boyd Lynn Salsbury, 30, of Chickasha.Salsbury was driving east on US 70 at teh time of the impact.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:26 p.m. Wednesday, according to the trooper’s report.

Zachary Esparza, 16, a passenger in the Dodge truck, was airlifted to Plano (Texas) Medical Center in serious condition with a head injury. The driver was not injured.

Salsbury was treated and released from Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma with a hand injury. His passenger, 43-year-old Frank Anthony Serano, Jr., of Durant, was also treated and released from MCSO for a “trunk internal injury.”

Of the four people involved in the collision, only Esparza was not using his seat belt, according to Keeling’s report.
