A father and son have been charged for the Friday armed robbery of a Colbert business after they were recognized from surveillance images.

Charged Tuesday with robbery with a weapon were James Marvin Carty, 64, and James Michael Carty, 42.

According to Colbert Police, Frank’s Corner Store, 102 Timothy St., was robbed at approximately 7:50 p.m. Store employees told police that two men entered and that one of them grabbed a gun in his waistband and demanded money from the cash register.

The employee ran back to the kitchen area, the affidavit states, and one of the men pulled the cash drawer out and handed it to the other man. The armed man then pulled out his gun and threatened the two employees.

The suspects then left the store and fled in a pickup. According to the affidavit, the men were later identified through the store’s surveillance footage, plus a Grayson County arrest sheet for James Marvin Carty showed a photo of him and it matched the images on the surveillance footage.

Bryan County Sheriff Bill Sturch said both men are in custody, following an investigation by numerous agencies, including the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Durant Police, plus agencies in Arkansas and Texas.

The younger Carty was arrested Monday in Denison, according to Sturch, and the elder Carty was arrested Tuesday in Monticello, Ark. Sturch said SOI Enterprises flew officers to Monticello and that they brought Carty back to Durant at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. The younger Carty is still in the Grayson County Jail.
