A father and son were killed in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday southeast of Durant on Highway 70E.

Jackey J. Ross Jr., 50, and his son Jackey J. Ross III, 25, both of Durant, died at the scene of the 5:20 a.m. crash, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

According to the patrol, the elder Ross was driving his vehicle westbound when he drove off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree with the passenger side of the vehicle.

The younger Ross was a passenger in the vehicle. The bodies of both victims were pinned in the wreckage until they were freed by Calera Fire-Rescue, according to the patrol.

According to Trooper David McCutcheon’s report, both occupants wore seat belts. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

A total of five Durant residents, including a two-year-old boy, have been killed in post-Thanksgiving automobile accidents.

Early Monday afternoon, Erin E. Hudson, 31, Jason Eugene Madding, 33, and Paul J. Hudson, 2, were killed after their car was hit by a tractor-trailer rig four miles west of Kingston on Highway 377 at the Highway 32 intersection.

According to the patrol, Hudson failed to yield at a stop sign and drove her car into the path of the semi. The truck driver and a passenger declined medical treatment at the scene.
