Caddo 54, Cyril 28
The Caddo Bruins rolled to their first district win with a 54-28 thumping of Cyril Friday night. The return of previously injured quarterback Nate Owens bolstered a potent offense, as he passed for more than 200 yards.
Caddo evened its record to 2-2 on the season and went to 1-2 in district B-2.
“We played real well offensively, but played very average defense,” said Caddo coach Randy Hitsman. “Our first team (defense) only gave up 12 points and I let the other kids pay the second half. They didn’t run through us, you know, but I was disappointed in our defensive efforts. We’ve got to get a lot better.
“We’ve got four real tough games coming up that’s going to be the heart of our season. We have to get better defensively if we’re gong to make the playoffs.
“We only punted one time. Our offensive line is getting better. I rotated Dillon Proctor and Tyler Wright at tailback and both ran well. Nate Owens threw the ball well.
“(Cyril) drove the ball on us several times, and got after us a little bit. Next week we have Paoli and then Allen, Alex. That’s the heart of our season. We are getting better offensively, but we really need to improve on the defensive end.”
Friday will be Caddo’s Homecoming hosting Paoli (3-1), a 48-0 winner over Macomb last week, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Temple 52, VLA 8
The Victory Life Academy Eagles fell to 1-3 on the season after dropping a district C- game to Temple, 58-8, Friday night. It was Temple’s second win in District C-2, while the Eagles dropped to 1-2 in the district.
The Eagles trailed 22-0 after the first quarter, and was down 52-8 by half-time. The game ended by mercy rule, a margin of at least 50 points, less than three minutes into the third quarter.
VLA’s lone touchdown came on a pass for more than 50-yard pass from Jake Nichols to Jacob Dupree.
Preston Cooper led the defense with eight tackles.
“Shelby Stiles (starting RB) still out from injury and we had Taylor Reeves (starting OL/DL) out with the flu ... a lot of guys in different spots and it just got pretty ugly on us,” said Eagles coach Tim Wigington. “
VLA will host Mountain View Gotebo (1-3), a 50-22 loser to Thackerville last week, with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff Friday night. Also on Friday, Thackerville’s win moved the Wildcats to the top of District C-2 with at 3-0. The Eagles and Mountain View Gotebo are right in the middle of the pack among three teams at 1-2 in the district right now.
