Howard Lee (Bud) Young a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed away in Denison, Texas on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the age of 92 years 9 months and 14 days. He was born in Denison, Texas to Robert and Mamie (Howard) Young on Tuesday, March 23, 1920. Bud was married to Ibby Mae (Murphy) Young for 57 years.
Bud was a National Guardsman; he was one of the first called into active service for the Army in November 1940 with Company L 144th Infantry. He went to Brownwood, Texas and then was sent to Pearl Harbor before it was bombed on December 7th. His Company was recalled to Brownwood, Texas were they were transferred to the pacific coast in anticipation of a possible invasion by Japan. Eventually, Bud transferred to Ft. Benning, Georgia to attend Officer Candidate School and became a 2nd Lieutenant. Bud spent the war fighting in various locations on the Pacific Coast; Northern Philippines, Saipan, and Okinawa to name a few. He received the Bronze Star during the war. Bud spent 32 years with O G & E (Oklahoma Gas and Electric). Bud was a loving husband and father. He was an avid fisherman and a field tester for Shakespeare Rod.
Mr.Young is survived by his; brother, Robert Young of California; 8 nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mamie Young; wife, Ibby Mae Young (married 57 years); daughter, Barabara Young (DOD September 1, 1967); sisters, Mildred , Helen, and Elouise.
A Graveside Service in his honor will be at 2:00 PM Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Calvary Cemetery, in Dension, Texas with Rev. Bill Brown officiating.
