Kiwanis Club holds annual Installation of Officers and Recognition Banquet

On Tuesday evening, the Durant Kiwanis Club held its annual Installation of Officers and Recognition Banquet. The Kiwanians enjoyed food, listened to music and sang traditional songs.

The club has over 100 members and is dedicated to serving the children of the community. The Kiwanis Club is involved with numerous activities benefiting local schools and charities. On Tuesday, the club looked back on the past year and prepared for the upcoming one.

Awards were given out to commemorate the 2011 year. Max McClendon was commended for his perfect attendance; John Hoefer was thanked for his service and dedication to the organization’s yearly pancake feed; Wayne Stanley was presented with Law Officer of the Year by Durant Police Chief Durward Cook; Betty Clay was named Layperson of the Year and accepted her award through grateful tears; and Pat Suman was presented with Kiwanian of the Year.

New officers were named for the 2011-2012 year. Jeremy Rowland was named treasurer and 2nd vice president; Betty Clay will continue her role as secretary; Chris Pierce was named 1st vice president; James Caudle will be the president elect; and Jeff Shattuck, immediate past president, handed over his duties to Barbara O’Steen, who will be president.

The members of the Durant Kiwanis Club look forward to another year of service to Durant and Bryan County.
