CALERA — The Lady Bulldogs fell 5-2 against Soper on Thursday as quiet bats and lackadaisical infielding stymied the softball team.

Taylor Pickett took the loss for Calera, but she did have a good day at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double and a single. Miranda Collett also did well with a single, RBI, stolen base and a run scored.

Bailey McGuinness scored the Lady Bulldogs’ first run in the third inning. Calera fell behind 4-0 before she was able to score on Collett’s RBI ground-out. Collett singled in the sixth and scored on a Ramona Vasquez grounder, but the Lady Bulldogs would not see home plate again.

The Calera defense did have some shiny moments. Madi Robinson did well in centerfield, covering the infield on some touchy lays and making a critical grab in the third. Collett made a throw to Rogers for a tag-out of a Red Bear on a steal attempt in the fourth.

And in the fifth, the Lady Bulldog “D” turned a 2-3 double play on a catch in foul territory.

The Lady Bulldogs will host Rock Creek on Friday.
