A reserve Durant Police officer plowed his patrol car into yard ornaments while responding to a pursuit late Saturday evening.
Reserve Police Sgt. Clayton Yarbrough was passing a vehicle at Briarwood when he drove off the roadway on the left side and struck several cement yard ornaments, according to police. He was not injured.
Yarbrough was responding to a chase that began at 10:30 p.m. when Sgt. Jim Smarr tried to pull over a vehicle that did not stop at the North Third and Mulberry intersection, according to the report.
The report stated that the vehicle went through an alley and an apartment complex. Speeds reached 50 miles per hour in the 400 block of North Third Avenue before the driver stopped in the 300 block of West Evergreen Street.
Police arrested the driver and the passenger. The driver, identified as Kevin Strange, was arrested for suspicion of eluding police, DUI, driving under suspension and transporting an open container. The passenger, Billy Pugh, was arrested for public intoxication.
In other accidents, a motorcyclist is in fair condition at Parkland Hospital in Dallas following a crash at 2:20 p.m. Monday on Church Street in Mead.
Neil L. Keithley, 42, is being treated for head, trunk and arm injuries, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
Keithley was westbound on a Honda motorcycle when he drove off the roadway at a high rate of speed and laid down the cycle, according to the patrol. He was transported to Parkland by LifeStar helicopter.
Excessive speed on a curve was cited in Trooper BJ Keeling’s report as the cause of the crash. Keithley was not wearing a helmet.
The West Bryan County Volunteer Fire Department and Bryan County EMS assisted the patrol.
Durant Police arrested a woman for public intoxication after receiving a call at 5:58 a.m. Sunday about a car stuck on the railroad tracks in the 3800 block of West Main Street.
When Patrolman Brandon Carbaugh arrived, he found a mini van on the tracks and a woman was asleep at the wheel. According to the report, the woman identified as Natasha Polk, had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and an odor of alcoholic beverage on her breath. She was booked into jail.
Patrolman Drew Hale investigated a burglary at TH Rogers Lumber on Westside Drive. An employee told Hale on Monday that approximately 70 squares of shingles were missing. Entry was gained by cutting a chain on the gate.
