The Durant Lions lost their fourth straight game on Friday, dropping a 46-27 decision at the hands of the sixth-ranked Hugo Buffaloes (3A).

The Lions spotted Hugo a 17-10 first quarter lead as Nick Brown scored 13 of his game-high 22 in the first eight minutes. The Buffs opened the second quarter with a trio of long-range bombs and led 26-10 before Durant showed signs of life.

The Lions went on a 10-3 run sparked by seven points from Cole Hughes. He was the only Durant player in double digits, finishing with 11 points.

Trailing 29-20 at the half, Durant was outscored 17-7 in the second half. Hugo’s defense held the Lions scoreless until Skye Lowe’s jumper with 2:20 left in the third. Hugo led by 15 after three quarters of play.

Cameron Scheussler finished with six points, Zac Cater had four, Lowe had three, Will Engle scored a fourth quarter bucket and Blake Wilson reached the free throw line for a single point.

Durant (4-7) will travel to Atoka for a Tuesday tilt against the Wampus Cats. Later in the week, the Lions are scheduled to participate in the East Central Oklahoma Classic tournament in Ada.
