A Boswell man accused of attempting to rob a convenience store in Durant has been sentenced to prison.

Jordan Scott Bradley, 19, pleaded no contest this week to robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison with the last 13 years suspended.

Bradley and Marcus Gene Jeffries, 17, were arrested in April shortly after the robbery attempt, according to Durant police.

Police were notified early that evening that two males wearing ski masks pulled handguns and attempted to rob Jerry’s Drive-thru, 1298 N. First Ave.

An affidavit states that the suspects left in a red car and that a person reporting the crime followed them onto Highway 70 toward Bokchito.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Bryan County Sheriff’s deputies stopped the vehicle on the east side of Bokchito and arrested Bradley and Jeffries.

Police reviewed surveillance video from the store and it showed two males enter the store, point handguns at the manager, and demand money from the cash register. According to the affidavit, the manager did not open the register and the suspects fled, without any money.

Durant Police Detective Brian Chavez interviewed Bradley that evening. According to the affidavit, Bradley said the juvenile wanted to rob a store, and although he did not want to do it, he did it anyway. Bradley said they entered the store, and he, Bradley, said, “Let me get the money out of the register,” the affidavit states. He said he pointed the gun in the manager’s direction, and that the manager kept moving his hand toward a drawer. Bradley said he did not want to get shot and that they left when the manager pushed an alarm.

Jeffries was also charged with robbery under the Youthful Offender Act which allows minors to be charged as adults for certain crime. He pleaded guilty October and he is in the custody of the Office of Juvenile Affairs. A review is set for his case in April 2013.

In other crimes, sheriff’s deputies have investigated several thefts recently.

David Anteau told Deputy John Ray Haislip that upon returning to his home in the 3300 block of Old Highway 70, he discovered the door had been kicked in and a television, shotgun and gold ring had been stolen.

Deputy Haislip investigated another burglary at a cabin in the 300 block of South Dickson Road in Colbert. Vernon Webb said the cabin is under construction and that a television and tools had been stolen. Entry was gained by cutting a screen on a window.

A trailer owned by Gary Clark was stolen from Folsom Road. The victim told Deputy Haislip he had left the trailer there on Dec. 24 and when he returned on Thursday, it was gone.

Deputy Joey Welton Tucker investigated the burglary of Robbin Hickman’s shop building on Elm Street in Cartwright. According to the report, an electric log splitter and tools were taken for a loss of $450.
